Why Self-Care Should Start Young: Life Lessons from a Spa Day

Writer: Jonisha HolmesJonisha Holmes

Spa days aren’t just about pampering; they’re opportunities to teach kids valuable lessons about self-care and confidence. During our spa parties, I take time to talk to each girl as they receive their treatments. We discuss how important it is to take care of their hair, skin, and nails. I encourage them to think about self-care as something they can enjoy not just during a party but also at home with their moms, friends, or even by themselves.

As a mother, I practice what I preach. With my 6-year-old, I teach her simple ways to take care of her skin and hair, making it part of her daily routine. My 16-year-old works with me on the spa bus, and I emphasize the importance of maintaining self-care habits at every age. These conversations are not just for fun—they’re about building lifelong habits of self-love and confidence.

Self-care is a skill, and starting young makes a big difference. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about feeling good and taking pride in who you are. I love knowing that my spa parties inspire these young girls to take care of themselves and prioritize their well-being.
